It started off as a drunken conversation at Corsica’s Calvi Rocks festival in July 2009. Friendly Fires had just played live, Holy Ghost had just finished DJing, and in the post-gig haze the decision was made by each band to cover one of the other’s songs.

Eight months later and here are the quite brilliant results. Friendly Fires were the first to honour the agreement, finishing 2009 in the studio with a superb take on the DFA duo’s ‘Hold On’ classic. Meanwhile, Holy Ghost’s cover of ‘On Board’ took a little longer – sessions vanished, vocal tracks mysteriously vanished, hard drives were fractured and somewhere in the middle of it, the duo lost their close friend Jerry Fuchs, whose awe-inspiring drumming is at the core of this version of ‘On Board’. The results are equally special. - (Premiered on Stereogum)

Doozy Dooze!

Fessant retour sur mon post d'hier, il semble que le Canada ait choisi de parcourir le long et dur chemin vers sa conquête de l'or! 2 matchs en 2 soirs dont celui face à la Russie mercredi, comme dit le vieux dicton : «Y'en aura pas d'facile!».

Pour les fans d'hockey, je crois que l'on peut uniquement les encourager et criez «Let's go Canada!»

D'ailleurs, plaisante comparaison ici. Nos amis de la jungle urbaine et animale, Dooze Jackers, ont fait paraître leur plus récent remix hier au courant de la soirée. Et que dire! Un sublime travail de la pièce «Let's go» de Party Dark.

Ce remix donne un excellent résultat bien honnêtement! Considérant mon intérêt grandissant pour la dutch, j'apprécie énormément l'apport des vocals qui viennent très bien agrémenter les enchaînements rythmés.

En attendant impatiemment le match qui opposera Team Canada aux États-Unis ce soir. Je crois que c'est un temps idéal pour faire une réapparition sur la blogosphère dukienne... qui ne m'avait vu très souvent dernièrement! Alors, la découverte musicale de la journée n'offre malheureusement pas de similitude avec le hockey (à moins bien sûr, qu'un des joueurs possède la citoyenneté britannique!) mais tout de même, elle est exquise.

Bouddha Slinky, vous connaissez? C'est à la base un regroupement d'étudiants fanatiques de musique, mais c'est bien plus que cette simple description lorsque l'on s'y attarde davantage! Ce sont des fans envieux de voir leurs artistes préférés performer dans la métropole, des amateurs incontestés de lourdes BASS et bien entendu, des organisateurs au talent effréné. Ce sont ces derniers qui m'avaient grandement surpris le mois dernier en ayant eu l'audace de recevoir les géants Canadiens Datsik et Excision à l'ancien incinérateur de Rosemont. Vous avez bien lu, dans cette ancienne usine qui a fermé ces portes... il y a déjà plus de 17 ans!

Oui, une soirée réussie. Sans le moindre doute!

C'est à ce moment, après quelques recherches facebookienne que j'ai pris connaissance de leur prochain invité, avec la collaboration de «High on Beats».

Me and my brother Liam scoured our great frozen land far and wide, under rock and tree, from the deepest depths of Lake Huron to the majestic peaks of the rocky mountains for the sickest, raddest, most cold certified producers in the great white north for one epic slapshot of a mix. After a long and arduous journey we finally assembled these 17 crazy Canuck acts who all graciously offered us both released and unreleased music just in time to pump everyone up with some National spirit for the Olympic games…. and throw the gauntlet down to all you other countries out there who think you can beat this EHHHHH!
