Panton- 'Someday' EP Launch

"Whether he be carrying you into the mists of techno or setting up some good house and tech-house vibes, Panton's style is hypnotic and unpredictable. While his first EP "Someday," released on Southern Fried Records, is considered a landmark in terms of hybrid techno/tech-house/electro music. Panton is surely gaining appraisal with his EP and upcoming remixes for 2 Bears (Hot Chip), Magik Johnson, Tuffweelz and his much anticipated Crookers remix, already supported by Brodinski and critically acclaimed at the WMC 2010. Fully-equiped with analog hardware, Panton is going back to the roots of techno and house with his upcoming second EP. Keep an eye out."

Panton's much talked about "Someday" EP is out now on beatport on Southern Fried Records.

Don't miss the EP Launch TONIGHT at Foufounes Electriques, at Voyeur with Jordan Dare.

Piknic Electronik 2010 kicks off Sunday

Piknic Electronik 2010: Now Eight Years Old and Has All Its Teeth!

Music lovers, dancers, and party worshippers from all dimensions!
Consider this your invitation to convene, from May 23rd (this Sunday) to October 3rd, for the 8th season of the best-known Sunday mass in Montreal – a season that is primed to convert the inconvertible! Old lions and young wolves of the electronic music scene will get you ready to dispatch your picnicking selves to The Calder of Place de l'Homme at Parc Jean-Drapeau.

On The Menu
Our aspirations for the programming this year: diversify, take chances, mix it all up in devious fashion! As a result, we've secured the arrival of a number of artists who've never played in Montreal before, as well as a bunch of names we've been chasing for years. Furthermore, we're presenting artists working in styles less explored within our past events, like dubstep and bass-music. Of course, local and national acts will also be quite busy this season, with the STM stage, which is devised in collaboration with Bande à Part and is totally dedicated to homegrown talent.

Family Space
Piknic Electronik pursues its initial vocation with its new Family Space. Situated in a specially designed area of the park, young and old will discover a haven of tranquility filled with inflatable games and mini-golf. All in all, everything you need to entertain the family while listening to the music you love!

An Offer You Can’t Refuse
The Piknic Electronik pass returns, as always in limited quantities. At a meager $65 (plus tax and service charges), it offers a discount of over 70% to 500 lucky patrons, who'll have access to all our regular-programming events (21 in all, excluding Piknic @ Osheaga). The pass is available exclusively from the Ticketpro.com website, from May 5th to the 28th.

Still Bill

““It’s O.K. to head out for wonderful, but on your way to wonderful you’re going to have to pass through all right,” he says. “And when you get to all right, take a good look around and get used to it because that may be as far as you’re going to go.”  - Bill Withers

Bill Wither’s Documentary, Still Bill, to be released on DVD Tuesday May 11th.

Still Bill, a project by filmmakers Damani Baker and Alex Vlack, had what seemed like a simple idea: make a film about Bill Withers. Eight years later, on May 11th, the film will be released exclusively through www.stillbillthemovie.com. The full physical DVD and digital download are available through the website, as well as a deluxe package which includes exclusive merchandise. The DVD includes never bonus features, such as live performances from the Bill Withers Tribute Concert and conversations with Graham Nash, Bill Russell, and Jim Brown.

After touring the world in festivals and winning numerous awards, Still Bill premiered to sold-out audiences at the IFC theater in New York.  Roger Ebert gave it two thumbs up, The New York Times called it "Moving", Time Out New York gave it four stars, Huffington Post called it an "Extraordinary film" and the Daily Beast called Still Bill "The Most Soulful Documentary of the Year."

The film has been profiled on NPR's "All Things Considered" and Oprah Radio's "Gayle King Show".  Audiences across the country and throughout the world have laughed, cried, and taken to their feet in hundreds of screenings.  They've been clamoring for a chance to get their hands on the film—and now, for the first time, it's available.

Felix Cartal - Volcano (video)

Felix Cartal just finished a new video for “Volcano” featuring Johnny Whitney of The Blood Brothers and Jaguar Love, who adds his unmistakable vocals over Felix’s crunchy melodies.

The video, produced & directed by Ace Norton (LCD Soundsystem, She and Him, Death Cab For Cutie, etc.), compiles footage from the Mount St. Helens eruption of 1980, juxtaposed with a hilarious modern twist. Norton even managed to match up some stock footage of Dan Rather, seemingly lip-syncing to Felix’s distinctive vocals.

"As a kid, my parents would put on the CBS Evening News every night while we ate dinner,” notes Norton. “When they fired Dan Rather, I didn't realize how comforting his voice was until it wasn't there anymore.  With all this coverage about the volcano in Iceland, it only seemed right to give the man one last broadcast, and make it about the biggest news story of all time - the impending apocalypse. This video is Dante's Peak, meets Ron Burgandy, meets Poltergeist.” Definitely something you must see to believe.

Mogwai - Burning (Film Teaser)

Mogwai has joined forces with Vincent Moon and Nathanael le Scouarnec, the masterminds behind La Blogotheque's Take-Away Shows, to release a mesmerizing project late August 2010. This creative collaboration is a CD/DVD release of the concert film Burning, and live album Special Moves. With Mogwai and La Blogotheque in the mix, you know that this will not be a typical concert DVD, as the soundscape and cinematic direction rival that of any art-house film. Check out the film teaser below:
