Egyptrixx - Bible Eyes

"While it might sound a bit premature and boastful, we’re confident that Egyptrixx’ debut CD Bible Eyes will end up amongst the top electronic music releases of 2011. Those in the underground are already familiar with Egyptrixx through the praise garnered from heavyweight DJ's, including Sinden, Mary Ann Hobbs and Drop the Lime and influential publications such as The Fader, Xlr8r and The Wire magazine. Recorded over three months during the summer of 2010, Bible Eyes is a complete work that manages to bring different sounds and styles together in a seamless manner. It could very well be the Music Has The Right To Children or Untrue of 2011.

The work of classically trained pianist and Toronto native, David Psutka, Bible Eyes is celestial club music; jeep music for a Saturn desert. There is an exhilarating right-but-wrong tension that all of Egyptrixx' tracks share - a shifting balance between melodic and dissonant, rapturous and antisocial. His releases challenge the status quo and impress with a unique style informed by elements of techno, house, dubstep and pop music.

Opening track “Start From The Beginning” drones in waves over white washed atmospheres and gentle piano stabs; a perfect lead into the bloopy house cycles of the title track. Lead single “Chrysalis Records (feat Trust)” bleeds into experimental pop and is matched perfectly with the vocals of Maya from the Canadian band Trust. Another series of shifts takes this journey into the minimal techno realm on “Liberation Front” and then psychedelic (and gorgeous) downtempo broken beat on the irresistible “Naples” and the trippy “Rooks Theme.” Melodic techno’s back in the picture on “Recital (A Version)” before Trust’s other singer (Rob) lends his vocals to the spacey gothic pop of “Fuji Cub (feat Trust).” The electronic bass breaks of “Barely” and the jagged and pulsating “Recital (B version)” provide the final chapters in EgyptrixxBible Eyes.

Digitalism- Blitz (video)

  Blitz - Preview by digitalism_official

"In the vein of their dancefloor classics "Idealistic", "Zdarlight," "Jupiter Room" and "Pogo," German duo Digitalism’s new single “Blitz” is a complete rocker! This song is their first new release in three years, and it’s a supernova that explodes through the speakers, bringing with it a euphoric state of consciousness...and while we may know that there are far greater things happening within this moment,
all you can do is dance.

The “Blitz” single and new video is in preparation for their full length, due out in 2011, the follow-up to their hit album Idealism. Receiving praise across the board, from Spin to XLR8R and everywhere in between, Idealism was just the beginning...now “Blitz” is here to get feet moving all over again."

Trick, or Treat?

It's Halloween week and the night-time festivities are in full swing in Montreal. The weekend is just around the corner, and the horror kicks off early this Thursday, at Belmont. I Love Neon + High Food + Turbo have got a terrifyingly huge night planned for you guys (and girls). Monsieur IVAN SMAGGHE will be in town, headlining a lineup completed by none other than Thomas Von Party, Mike Mind and a very SECRET GUEST!? I've got chills... Trick? or Treat?

Ivan Smagghe, if you haven't heard of him, is scary good and bloody brilliant. He formed Black Strobe with Arnaud Rebotini in 1997, before leaving in 2006, and is now France's most wanted radio host and selector, standing at the crossroads between glamorous parisian hype and musical integrity. His Test radio show and compilations imposed a new vision of leftfield electronica on Radio Nova and his programming for the two past years has been a faultless example of quality eclecticness. Though Smagghe hails from the early days of the Parisian underground - both through his connection with the defunct Rough Trade record shop and remixing contributions on various formats - he just recently came back to music production by launching his own Set imprint in early 2001.

As for Thomas Von Party and Mike Mind, they need no introduction as DJ's in Montreal, as they have been making us dance and feel music for a while now. With Turbo Recordings attached to their names, they are presently heavily focused on, and immersed in, music production; developing their unique sound to share with us and the rest of the world.

But what about that "SECRET GUEST"? A Trick, or a Treat? All I can tell you is that it's a big big internationally-renowned name, a legit music heavyweight, which you have definitely heard of. I can assure you that you will hate yourself if you miss out on this one... Trick, or Treat? You'll find out Thursday night.

Pretty Lights- Glowing In The Darkest Night

Pretty Lights is responsible for some of the freshest sounds in contemporary electronic music/hip-hop today” - DENVER POST

Pretty Lights delivers 3rd EP of 2010. Get it now!

"Pretty Lights has never been one to disappoint- and he’s not about to start now. The enigmatic super-producer has stayed true to his promise of releasing three EP’s in 2010…and deliver, he has! Glowing In The Darkest Night, the third installment of his trilogy of 2010’s EPs, was made available this past Friday, October 22nd via his website, www.PrettyLightsMusic.com.

2010 has been quite an exciting year for Pretty Lights. Besides releasing his trilogy of EP’s, Derek Vincent Smith (accompanied by live drummer Adam Deitch) has been busy touring the U.S. and Europe, including many festival appearances on both sides of the Atlantic. He recently surpassed one million album downloads through his website- not bad for an artist who has only been releasing music since 2008."

Hey ho Dooze Jackers!

THE ACTS

EROL ALKAN

This years headliner at HARD HAUNTED mansion (and every other major music festival around the world), the man, the legend, Erol Alkan. Perhaps no one inspires as much loyalty as England’s premiere electronic God, Mr Alkan. By his fanatic fans he is considered the greatest live Dj in the world, by critics and bands alike he is acclaimed as one of the most groundbreaking producers on the planet. He has been voted best Breakthrough DJ' by Muzik magazine, "DJ of the Year" by Mixmag 2006 and Datatransmissions 'DJ Of The Year' in both 2008 and 2009. As one of the most revered promoters in England Erol was the man behind the infamous Trash nights in London, widely considered one of the most influential club nights in history. As an indie producer he has worked on the Klaxons albums and produced the entire second mystery jets album. In dance music he has pumped out some of this year’s biggest bangers, alongside BOYS NOIZE, with Wavves, Avalanche and the massive festival anthem -- widely mistaken at first to be new Justice music -- Lemonade. You do not want to miss out on this very rare chance to witness the biggest cult producer and DJ in dance music today, perform in Canada for the first time in over 2 and a half years.

/

LA RIOTS

If there is anyone in North America whose live performance draws the same cult status as Erol’s its Daniel LeDisko from the LA Riots. His revolutionary approach to party rockin has earned him the respect and fear of the worlds biggest names in electronic dance music. JFK of MSTRKRFT has said that he is the only DJ in the world he is scared to go on after. And since our last event with LA Riots was so insane that La Policia decided to shut us down, we thought we would bring him back to the biggest venue MTL has to offer on the craziest night of the year. The driving force behind Kill Halloween is bringing you the absolute best f*cking party we can imagine and we have scoured the Earth to find you the absolute best headlining duo! And with Erol Alkan and LA Riots you have the absolute best the world has to offer. And as if these 2 weren't enough we have assembled the biggest All-Star cast of opening acts known to man (seriously any one of these guys headline major events every week). All I can say is WOW... Good thing you all have the next day off!

RAS G @ Belmont

RAS G (Los Angeles, BrainFeeder)

"Somewhere at the interstellar crossroads of Sun Ra, DJ Spooky, Strata East, and Lee “Scratch” Perry lies the incomparable musical mind of L.A. native Ras G (born Gregory Shorter, Jr.). Though he often affixes the group moniker “The Alkebulan (or Afrikan) Space Program” to his name, Ras G (a composite of his first initial and a testament to his belief in Rastafari) is the sole captain and crew of this spacecraft. Along with a 21st-century moxie, his collective influences make up what he describes as ghetto sci-fi—an extraterrestrial soundwave transmission of dub, white noise, glitch, off-kilter boom-bap, and sound bites."

(via BTSradio) To take a peak into RAS G's musical mind, check out the mix he did for BTS Radio below:

"A brief, brutal blend of illbient-flavored dubstep and ominous hiphop..." - The Stranger

"Ras G and artists he's mixing are like kids who take apart their favorite toys just to see how many different ways they can find to put them back together." - Chicago Reader

"Ras G is a commanding force in Los Angeles and a classic example of what artistry is. Always pushing his production limits and bending his sound to a point that really make you believe he's from outer space. His live shows have a reputation of blowing out sound systems and shaking walls to the point of deterioration.

Ras G, a defining figure of a new movement while in a class/world all on his own.

This exclusive set for BTS is only a taste of the destruction he can bring to speakers...Take cover."

The BBDC77

The Bloody Beetroots DeathCrew 77 kick off their first extended North American tour this week, and will be performing in front of a sold-out crowd at Telus Theater this Friday, October 16.

"On the eve of The Bloody Beetroots’ first extended North American tour as The Bloody Beetroots DeathCrew 77, Sir Bob Cornelius Rifo has released his remix of The Chemical Brothers’ “Dissolve”. Bob has turned The Chemical Brothers’ shimmering, psychedelic epic into a grinding club-ready track with explosive buildups and orchestral explosions.

Download: The Chemical Brothers- Dissolve (The Bloody Beetroots remix)

For the first time, Italian producer and polymath Sir Bob will be joined for the extended tour by a full band: The Bloody Beetroots DeathCrew 77. Stepping out from behind the mixers, Rifo now plays guitar, bass, and synths and is joined on stage by Tommy Tea on controllers and the Beetroots’ newest member Edward Grinch on drums.

The new live setup is a dramatic reinterpretation of the Beetroots’ music and the ultimate marriage of the band’s love of grinding electronic melodies, aggressive hardcore punk, and elaborate compositions. Check out the band Live at La Cigale as well as their new video for “Domino” for a sample of The Bloody Beetroots DeathCrew 77 below:

Duck Sauce- Barbra Streisand (video)

(vimeo.com) "Duck Sauce, the eminent producer duo comprised of A-Trak and Armand Van Helden, are primed to drop their second official single, “Barbra Streisand” on October 12th. If 3 million YouTube views of last year’s debut “aNYway” are any indicator, the official release of “Barbra Streisand” will be met with rabid anticipation as fan-recorded bootlegs have fueled blog excitement all summer.

"Barbra Streisand" continues to perfect the Duck Sauce sound, which joyously mashes classic disco house with forward-thinking dancefloor energy and expert production. A-Trak and AVH are bona fide DJ heroes whose team-ups are fueled by anything-goes samples, an almost childlike sense of fun, and 100% NYC attitude. This approach has made Duck Sauce fans-for-life out of partygoers around the globe, and will continue to convert anyone within earshot of "Barbra"'s instantly addictive, whistling hook.

For the video, director So Me (Justice, Kid Cudi, MGMT) uses the song to soundtrack a hyperactive, ecstatic New York City travelogue. Shot over a week of long nights out with A-Trak and Armand (including live footage from the Fool's Gold "Day Off" labor day block party), the clip is a pop-art adventure starring commandeered taxis and hotdog stands, sexy strangers, and a who's-who of famous friends: rappers, producers, indie rockers, graffiti writers and nightlife icons all take turns adding their own special sauce to the song, turning "Barbra Streisand" into one of this year's must-rewind clips.

Watch the video and see just how many cameos you can catch, then pick up the "Barbra Streisand" single (featuring striking sleeve art from Fool's Gold art director Dust La Rock) on October 12th."

With a one-button sampler and a four-track they formed Emanon and started making their own albums. Exile, then met 19 year old rapper Blu and together started work on his solo effort Dirty Science, featuring Slum Village, MED and Ghostface Killa. Yelle- La Musique

YELLE IS BACK...

"Bright, colorful and sassy artist Yelle is back with a new single « La Musique » to be released on Kitsuné on October 4th 2010!

Yelle (and producers GrandMarnier & Tepr) first came to prominence  in 2006  with the song "Je veux te voir" ("I wanna see you") becoming in just a few months a cult hit on dance floors from Paris to London and New York…

Yelle is driving the new non-aggressive girl power scene, delivering kick-ass lyrics while echoeing a certain nostalgia for the golden years of French electro-pop (Etienne Daho, Elli & Jacno, Chagrin d’Amour Taxi Girl or Lio) but all boosted with her own flavored groove and subtle vibe into some booty-pop.

Minitel Rose- 'Atlantique'

MINITEL ROSE

ATLANTIQUE

November 22, 2010

on K7! Records

www.minitelrose.tv
www.myspace.com/minitelrose

"Minitel Rose share Klaxons melodic sensibility, Boy Crisis lissom sophistication and, at their best (whistle-tastic single Magic Powder, a potential indie-electro Young Folks), Lykke Lis spare sound palette. They should ease off the shrill, clichéd Justice synths, but there is a bright glimmer of real promise here". - NME

"Sickly sweet. With their snazzy logo and oh-so-?80s retro look, new Nantes trio Minitel Rose are perched atop the crest of the next wave of hip Gallic electro-pop. Their debut The French Machine offers an elegant take on the Ed Banger aesthetic, but their plundering of Sebastien Tellier, Sparks and Daft Punk often turns sickly sweet". - UNCUT

"French electro trio Minitel Rose is back in the game. Two years after their critically acclaimed first album, The French Machine (Futur, 2008), Raphael, Romain and Quentin have teamed up with K7! Records for their sophomore release Atlantique.

Sebastien Tellier announces
Sexuality Remix Album

Out September 10th via Record Makers

Featuring Remixes by A-Trak, SebastiAn, Kavinsky, Aeroplane, Boys Noize, Breakbot,
Penguin Prison
and more!

"Two years after its release via renowned French label Record Makers, Sebastien Tellier’s Sexuality still garners praise from around the globe- and now, we’re excited to announce the release of the official Sexuality Remix album, out September 10th!

SebastiAn started the campaign with his version of “Sexual Sportswear,” a classic, as many of his works tend to be. Critically acclaimed Italian/Belgian duo Aeroplane contributes a dancefloor killer of “Kilometer,” and Kavinsky reworks a stellar version of “Roche.”

German producer-extraordinaire Boys Noize also delivers a unstoppable Eurodance mix of “L’amour Et La Violence,” while A-Trak does it D-I-S-C-O on “Kilometer.” Other gems from Midnight Juggernauts, Breakbot, Arpanet, Donovan and Danger round out this brilliant remix album,
the only way Record Makers knows how."

Record Makers turns 10

"Since Record Makers opened their doors ten years ago, their calling card has been the establishment of partnerships hitherto unseen, moving forward in exciting, creative directions long before they became in vogue.

It all started with AIR’s score for Sofia Coppola’s The Virgin Suicides, the label’s first official release, which they A&Red entirely. AIR have since parted ways with the label, but the legacy and impact of this collaboration endure.

Next came Sébastien Tellier, a maverick talent always keen on collaborating with the crème de la crème. His first album, L’Incroyable Verité, was mixed by close friend Quentin Dupieux (aka Mr. Oizo) in 1999.  A few years later, in need of a percussionist to add finesse to his 2004 Politics track "La Ritournelle", Tony Allen was the man to step into the breach, long before Damon Albarn enlisted him for The Good, The Bad and The Queen. His latest album, Sexuality, remains the only album produced by Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo outside of Daft Punk / Crydamoure. “Universe” was the only contemporary song to feature on the soundtrack for Daft Punk’s Electroma.

LOGO- La Vie Moderne EP minimix

"Logo is a what's-the-point duo. They can’t sing and have nothing to prove. Engaging and impassive, they settle for the sight of modern life: from its fake veneer to its faded wallpaper. They don’t laugh or make fun of this observation. This is why Logo decided to start passive resistance.

Hugues is a student. At university, he is told that with a bit of self-sacrifice, he will be out of reach. But he already knew that. So in order to compensate all this love, at night he reads. More withdrawn from reality, Thomas smiles from time to time and thinks. More in images than in words.

Both a cynical and a playful consumer product, Logo matches perfectly well the market’s requirements since it embodies with dynamism the new design of a world with unchanged values. In the future, only shapes can transform.

Ivory Tower- The Film

Chilly Gonzales, Peaches and Tiga star in

Ivory Tower

A New Feature Film Written and Produced

by Chilly Gonzales

"Chilly Gonzales has been creating magic behind the scenes of some of the past decade’s favorite artists (Feist, Peaches, Jamie Lidell), has established himself as a worldwide entertainer renowned for his Piano Talk Shows (recently ones with Andrew WK, A-Track, Sia) and holds the Guinness World Record for longest solo concert (27+ hours). So what is left for him to tackle, you may ask? Writing and producing a feature-length FILM.

Written and produced by Gonzales, Ivory Tower stars Tiga and Peaches and Gonzo himself. The story centers around two champion chess-playing brothers, Hershell (Gonzales) and Tiga (Thadeus) who share a love for the same girl Marsha (Peaches), and confirms Gonzales as the musical prodigy and legendary all-round entertainer he’s always claimed to be. The film is supported by an album of the same name by Chilly, produced by Boys Noize, being released September 14th on Arts & Crafts, and the film will be hitting the festival circuit before getting theatrical release later this year.

NLARGE YOUR PARTIES

DON RIMINI
NLARGE YOUR PARTIES

"This is the highly anticipated new release by unstoppable electro producer hailing from France, Don Rimini. “Nlarge Your Parties” is the follow-up to the much acclaimed “Time To Panic EP”, “Absolutely Rad EP”, and “Kick n’Run” which gathered amazing feedback and great success among both listeners and the media. More than just a single, “Nlarge Your Parties” is a mini album that includes four brand new tracks.

The EP showcases a more mature and accomplished production work; more melodic, with subtle arrangements and added vocals, yet it still retains the Don Rimini unique sound signature that rapidly propelled him into the spotlight; in your face beats, energetic electro sounds, colorful synths and dynamic rhythms.

The influences on “Nlarge Your Parties” range from Chicago ghetto house to tropical dubstep, straight techno house to more melodic, organic and harmonic sounds. Armand Van Helden, Green Velvet, DJ Rush, Underground Resistance, DJ Sneak, Basement Jaxx or Fatboy Slim can be named as references for the French producer. Don Rimini has assembled a rich pallet of sounds, moods and grooves for a stunning result.
