Trick, or Treat?
It's Halloween week and the night-time festivities are in full swing in Montreal. The weekend is just around the corner, and the horror kicks off early this Thursday, at Belmont. I Love Neon + High Food + Turbo have got a terrifyingly huge night planned for you guys (and girls). Monsieur IVAN SMAGGHE will be in town, headlining a lineup completed by none other than Thomas Von Party, Mike Mind and a very SECRET GUEST!? I've got chills... Trick? or Treat?
Ivan Smagghe, if you haven't heard of him, is scary good and bloody brilliant. He formed Black Strobe with Arnaud Rebotini in 1997, before leaving in 2006, and is now France's most wanted radio host and selector, standing at the crossroads between glamorous parisian hype and musical integrity. His Test radio show and compilations imposed a new vision of leftfield electronica on Radio Nova and his programming for the two past years has been a faultless example of quality eclecticness. Though Smagghe hails from the early days of the Parisian underground - both through his connection with the defunct Rough Trade record shop and remixing contributions on various formats - he just recently came back to music production by launching his own Set imprint in early 2001.
As for Thomas Von Party and Mike Mind, they need no introduction as DJ's in Montreal, as they have been making us dance and feel music for a while now. With Turbo Recordings attached to their names, they are presently heavily focused on, and immersed in, music production; developing their unique sound to share with us and the rest of the world.
But what about that "SECRET GUEST"? A Trick, or a Treat? All I can tell you is that it's a big big internationally-renowned name, a legit music heavyweight, which you have definitely heard of. I can assure you that you will hate yourself if you miss out on this one... Trick, or Treat? You'll find out Thursday night.
