MUTEK 2010

MUTEK 2010 FINALIZES CENTRAL PROGRAMME FOR 11TH EDITION!

April 21, 2010 - Montreal: – From June 2nd to June 6th of this year, MUTEK takes over Montreal’s Quartier des Spectacles to kick off Quebec’s summer cultural season with the 11th edition of the world-renowned festival that Time Out New York hails as “North America’s leading electronic-music event”. Today, MUTEK reveals its core programming of over 50 homegrown and international acts, including a special homecoming spotlight concert by Montreal’s own Guillaume Coutu Dumont. MUTEK 2010 also features many exclusive engagements with the cream of the global electronic-arts community, including 2 world premieres, 9 North American debuts, and 16 Canadian debuts.

With all this and more in the works for the 2010 edition, it’s no wonder that influential electronic-music journal XLR8R believes that “it is apparent that MUTEK is going to have its best year yet.” This foray into the festival’s second decade comes in light of last year’s landmark 10th anniversary edition. With overall attendance up by over 70% and a top-tier tourism record that attracts some 55% of the festival’s audiences from outside the province, this past March MUTEK was also named the winner of the 25th Grand Prix du Conseil des Arts de Montréal. The distinction has validated the tenure of the digital arts as an integral and vibrant contribution to the fabric of Montreal contemporary arts culture.

One eskimO - 'All Balloons' Video

"...catchy, ambient pop." – Billboard

"'Kandi" is a beautiful, aspirational track..." – Los Angeles Times Magazine

One eskimO’s one-of-a-kind sound is matched only by their creativity, as they pioneered a “visual album” with “The Adventures of One eskimO,” a ten-part short-form animated series created by the team behind the Gorillaz animation.  Check out the video for “All Balloons” from the series HERE!

Created By Gorillaz Animation Team

One eskimO’s smash single “Kandi” hit #1 on the Mediabase radio chart a few weeks ago making it the most played song on all adult rock stations in the US!  One eskimO have been championed by over two hundred key stations across the country including “World Café” and  “Morning Becomes Eclectic” and are now crossing into pop radio.

Laura Escudé - Pororoca

Critically-acclaimed musician and technologist Laura Escudé to release debut artist CD Pororoca

Pororoca encompasses a myriad of genres, utilizing live electronics, synthesis, found sounds, samples and violin affected by hardware and software. It’s a masterpiece that brings her early influence of Cage, Stockhausen, Autechre, Squarepusher, Monolake, FSOL and Aphex Twin into the future.

Pororoca is the debut CD release from critically-acclaimed music technologist, violinist, composer, sound designer and educator Laura Escudé. Based in Los Angeles, Escudé is perhaps the most technically skilled and gifted electronic music artist we’ve seen in a long time - period. Bold statement, yes, but there’s a lot to back it up.

Laura specializes in the software program Ableton Live and is the “Ableton Live authority” in Los Angeles. In fact, she was L.A.’s first Certified Ableton Trainer, (as well as one of the first in the world) and now personally conducts the West Coast certification events for Ableton. Her innovative approach to music, technology and community has propelled her to do consulting and music work for numerous high-level artists and companies. In 2009 she worked with Cirque du Soleil on their production “Viva Elvis” as an Ableton Live programmer, toured Europe on violin and electronics with acclaimed world music band Niyaz, was a tour consultant for Kanye West and recorded violin on EastWest’s Quantum Leap Silk sound library. She collaborates with some of the most innovative minds in music and technology through her new media collective Electronic Creatives and launched the popular Ableton Live Master Class series in 2009.

More Booka Shade!

'Roska has riddims. Must have riddims. And he has em in mamouth supply.'

"We are very excited to bring this man to our city! This will no doubt be a memorable Sunday night. We got a crazy sound system in affect thanks to the extra bass we will be bringing in! It's all about the sound so we will make no compromise, PROMISE!" - Usual Suspects, Lexis & Jupiter Room

Usual Suspects

It's Saturday night. You've had a long week. You're bored, you want to go out, dance, have a drink and have a good time. You're not the kind of person to go out to bottle-popping, money-blowing, Guetta-playing clubs, where young people go to hook-up. You're more interested in the DJ, in good music, in different music, in dancing to music you have never even heard before, but that gets you moving and smiling, in affordable drinks, and pleasant company.

This is Happening - LCD Soundsystem

Vite! www.lcdsoundsystem.com

David Tort

Nervous Records – the iconic New York City house music label is about connecting the dots between the beat genre’s storied past and promising future. The latest release we have for you brings Spain’s superproducer/remixer/DJ David Tort to the United States for a unique mix that combines upfront tracks with some all time dance floor monsters resurrected especially for this compilation.

With a cache of 40 remixes spanning over a decade, the art of reworking a track is a David Tort speciality. He’s worked with many of dance music’s most respected names including Ultra Nate, Paul Jackson, David Guetta, Steve Angello, Sebastian Ingrosso, Gui Boratto (remix included on this compilation), Paul Harris, Bob Sinclar and Tiesto; adding his own choppy, minimal style to original works.

Ou est Don Diablo?

Ou est Don Diablo? Well, he's locked himself in the studio to finish his own forthcoming single and doing remixes for the likes of Gorillaz, Noisia and Ou Est Le Swimming Pool, who had Armand van Helden on remix duties for their last single and have now recruited Don Diablo for their new single 'These New Knights', which is out now! Go grab the remix right here, right now and for FREE!

Rich Hil

"...alternating between smoothly crooning sticky melodies at times, and spittin' fierce and intricate rhymes at others" - Complex.com

Rich Hil has teamed up with Boo Bonic (formerly of Philly’s Most Wanted) for a video for their collaboration, “Where Did They Come From.”  The clip was shot guerilla style in Las Vegas and was inspired by The Hangover, Puffy & Mase’s video for “Can’t Nobody Hold Me Down,” and Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas.

Rich has also just released a brand new track with Kid Cudi. The song is called “Won’t You Tell Me and will be on Rich’s next mixtape, Limos Nostra Act 1.

Challenging Nature

Adam Kesher to release sophomore artist album Challenging Nature.
*CD produced by Dave One (Chromeo) with additional mixing from Philippe Zdar (Cassius), A-Trak and Pierrick Devin!

I’d like to introduce you to Adam Kesher - a really cool French band (no, not one guy) with some amazing friends. See, the band is getting close to releasing their sophomore album - Challenging Nature - and it's something you need to know about.

First of all, it's awesome. Second of all, it comes with a stamp of approval from some heavyweirght artists currently kicking it on the scene

Chromeo’s Dave One called and offered to produce the album. Then the love kept pouring in from Cassius’ Phillipe Zdar, A-Trak and Pierrick Devin (Alex Gopher, Cassius, Cut Copy). Check Mate. Game Over.

Deluka - Cascade

"Girl-charged electro-skuzz punk, akin to Ladytron snacking on The Killers for brunch" - NME

"... a perfect storm of fluid electronic beats, hailing rock riffs, pulsating bass and Elie Innocenti's supercharged vocals. Somewhere on that fine line between pop-rock and electro is where Birmingham outfit Deluka found the inspiration for their hooky brand of danceable rock." - Arjan Writes

Here's something a little different for you Duke of Swabia readers. Birmingham UK’s Deluka are on the fast track toward stardom.  Fronted by lead singer Ellie Innocenti, whose power-strut vocals and bullet-proof cool are undeniably seductive, Deluka’s charged blend of jagged guitars, fluid beats and addictive melodies are garnering praise and buzz from a wide range of pop gate-keepers.

ZUBI

ZUBI!

The urban dictionary defines "zubi" as "a curse word in Hebrew, meaning 'penis'... used to imply that "hell not I'm not doing this!"" For instance: "zubi that I'm dedicating this post to male genitalia!!"

The reason why I am writing about 'zubi' is because it goes way deeper than the urban dictionary's definition. It is actually a name, a DJ name, a new DJ name. In fact, ZUBI represents a new solo side-project for NROTB's Mr.P.

He has recently released his very first mix, called PYRAMIDS MIX. Influenced by the sounds from all musical backgrounds, ZUBI always tries to bring new sounds to the dancefloor. Juggling between house music, uk funk, tech house and techno music, ZUBI creates his own vibe on the dancefloor.

ESKAMON

ESKAMON (AKA Amon Tobin & Eskmo) announce the release of “Fine Objects”

ESKAMON is the new collaboration project between Amon Tobin (Ninja Tune) & Eskmo (Warp, Planet Mu) and the duo’s first single - “Fine Objects” - is set for release April 5th on Eskmo’s own imprint, Ancestor Media.

“Fine Objects” is the result of the pair’s unique take on sonic exploration and the manipulation of field recordings. From the onset, the two went out with a recorder, gathering sounds from around the house, yard and studio. Material recorded out of the studio included sounds from a parking garage elevator, a broken harp and the droning tones from a discarded piano. These were combined with more home-centric sounds to form the central theme to the song.
